Yvo Bertrand Jenniges was born on February 15, 1927 to Bernard and Rosa (Otte) Jenniges in Willow Lake Township near Wanda, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mathias Catholic Church and attended school in Wanda. Yvo was only 14 years old when the U.S. entered WWII. Too young to be drafted like his older brothers, he was left to help his father with the family farm. At the age of 16, he ventured out on his own and moved to Iowa where he worked as a farm hand. When he was old enough, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was a member of the 199th Engineer Battalion. He was proud to serve at a time when the nation was rebuilding. Years later, in 2001, Red Rock Central High School in Lamberton recognized Yvo with a high school diploma for the educational sacrifice he made as a teenager in order to keep the family farm operational and further the war effort.

On May 9, 1953 Yvo was united in marriage to Gertrude “Trudy” Margery Fixsen of Seaforth, MN. They made their home on his parents’ farm in Willow Lake Township. In 1955, they purchased their own farm near Wanda, where they farmed and Yvo drove livestock truck. In 1967, they moved their family north to property near Sedan to begin Yvo’s dream of starting a cattle ranch. They resided there until 1970, when they established their permanent ranch in Gilchrist Township. There the two spent many wonderful years expanding the ranch, watching their children become adults, enjoying their grandchildren and celebrating each new great-grandchild. Yvo and Trudy’s home was always a welcome place for their family, their many friends, and their children’s friends.

In 2010 Yvo and Trudy left the ranch and began their journey to Senior Living. Yvo made the most of the change by forming card clubs and emerged as the Bingo Caller, Rosary Group Host, paper deliveryman and DJ, using his record collection.

In his last few months Yvo reflected, “I have had a really good life.” and “I’m ready to go when the good Lord is ready for me.” That day arrived on Sunday, March 14, 2021, when Yvo, who had been a resident at the Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade, went home to be with the Lord.

Throughout his life Yvo was a leader and contributed much to others, his church and the communities he lived in. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Volunteer Fireman, the American Legion, Gilchrist Township Board, the Glacial Ridge Cattlemen’s Association, the MN Cattlemen’s Association, and the National Cattlemen’s Association.

Yvo was extremely proud of his family and never failed to talk about how many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren he had.  He is survived by seven of his children, Christine Burgess of Belfair, WA, Philip (Deb) Jenniges of Terrace, Daniel (Linda) Jenniges of Terrace, Francine Rethwisch (Joe) of Detroit Lakes, Martin (Pamela) Jenniges of Terrace, Benita Otterness (Todd) of Lowry, Margery Jenniges of Alexandria, MN; two sons-in-law, Stanley (Susan) Segaar of Brooten and Robert Moen of Livermore, CO; 28 grandchildren, including Nick Segaar, Matthew (Britney) Segaar, Raechel Segaar; Kathy Giddings, Jason (Sarah) Moen, Michael (Jairun Nisha) Moen, Leslie (Benjamin Bell) Moen; Toni (Tayler) Sing, Mitchell (Stephanie) Burgess; Jamie (Steven) Ries, Justin (Megan) Jenniges, Julie (Shawn) Petersen; Neil Jenniges, David Jenniges, James Poock, Ryan (Lindsay) Poock; Amber Rethwisch, Kayla (Jon) Pieper, Mikki (Chris) Schmit; Nathan (Angie) Jenniges, Shelly (Corey) Theis, Heather (Steve) Wehlage, Jessie Jenniges, Mark Jenniges, Michael Jenniges; Amanda (Jason) Halvorson, Jacob Otterness, and Levi Otterness; 39 great-grandchildren, Braxton, Everlee, Austin, Bailey, McKaylynn, Bradynn, Holdynn, Madison (Gabe), Mason, Elsie, Gabriella, Nash, Remi, Everly, Ashley, Carsten, Ashlyn, Tayden, Rylin, Kinzee, Eli, Kendyl, Leo, Chase, Kylee, Charlie, Barret, Henry, Truman, Teagan, Ella, Morgan, Maddie, Marley, Avery, Remi, Creedence, Gordon, and Greta; as well as one brother, Alphonse (Elaine) Jenniges of Brainard.
