Obituary

Vernon "Bruce" Stenswick, age 71, of Glenwood, formerly the Twin Cities, died Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Glenwood Retirement Village. A Celebration of Bruce's life will be held from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10th, at Barsness Park in Glenwood.

Vernon “Bruce” Stenswick was the son of Vernon Eugene Stenswick and Ruby Jensen Stenswick. He was born October 10, 1950, in Two Harbors, MN and passed away on July 20, 2022, at Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood, MN at the age of 71, after suffering with MSA - Multiple System Atrophy.

Bruce grew up in Two Harbors, was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and graduated in 1969 from Two Harbors High School. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1973. He joined the Peace Corps and served three years teaching in Malaysia. Upon returning to the states, he taught science classes in Granite Falls from 1977 to 1981 before returning to college and attaining a Master’s degree in Physics at Mankato State University.

He worked for NCR Comten in St. Paul as a Senior Software Engineer, Tandem in Reston VA, Control Data in St. Paul, Lockheed Martin in Colorado Springs, Lucent Technologies in Eden Prairie, and Computer Network Technology in Plymouth. He got a second Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the U of M in June of 2008.

Bruce sold his house in Eden Prairie and moved to Ridgewood Villa in Glenwood in October of 2020 and then to GRV in May of 2021. Bruce enjoyed cross-country skiing, biking, running (including the Boston Marathon), reading, remodeling his house, and building computers. Bruce will be remembered for his passion for the environment, his work ethic, his love of dogs, his French silk pies from Baker’s Square, playing Risk, and his “corny” jokes!

Bruce is survived by his sister, Linda Erno, of Glenwood; two nieces, Coleen (Elliott) Anderson of Maple Grove and Michele (Terry) Jones of Glenwood; and a nephew, Jason (Christa) Erno living in China.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Ron Erno and Dean Paulson.
