Timothy Steinhofer Obituary

Timothy “Tim” Steinhofer, age 68, of Brooten, MN, died Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, following a lengthy illness. In keeping with Tim’s wishes, no public services will be held. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Brooten.

Timothy Joseph Steinhofer was born on September 4, 1953 in Melrose, Minnesota. He was the fifth of 12 children born to John P. and Margaret Gladys (Zirbes) Steinhofer, Sr. Tim grew up in St. Cloud and was a 1971 graduate of Apollo High School. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and while living in St. Cloud he worshiped with his family at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

After high school, Tim enlisted in the United States Army. He served for 18 years before his honorable discharge. During that time he was stationed in Korea and other countries as well as in the U.S. After his military career, he returned to St. Cloud where he worked doing concrete construction. For a period of time he owned and operated his own company and later, he worked for Breitbach Construction, doing larger commercial projects. He moved to South Dakota for a number of years before settling in Brooten in 2006. In addition to his concrete work, he also worked at WASP (now FAST Global Solutions) in Glenwood for five years.

When Tim was young, he spent a lot of time at a home his parents owned on Grove Lake, not far from Brooten, and visiting other extended family in the area. During those years he made many friends. Almost immediately after his move to Brooten, Tim became reacquainted with one of his childhood friends, Cindy (Van Meveren) Morrison. The two soon became a couple and happily made their home together for the next 16 years.

Tim enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with friends and family, bonfires, and reading a good book. He died at the age of 68 years, on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, following a 7 year battle with lung cancer.

Tim is survived by his children, Charity (Mike) Kerchner of Sauk Rapids, Nicole Steinhofer of Albuquerque, NM, and Steven Steinhofer of St. Cloud; five grandchildren; three stepchildren, Justin and Jordan Lent and their brother, Roland “Bear” Kline; his best friend and life partner, Cindy Morrison of Brooten, and her daughter, Marisa Jacobson; his brothers, John Steinhofer Jr. of Big Falls, David Steinhofer of Sedan, Donald (Stefanie) Steinhofer of Sauk Centre, Chad Steinhofer of Glenwood; his sisters, Darlene Fadness of Sedan, Janice (Alan) Karasch of Hackensack, Kathy (David) Van Vickle of Glenwood, and LaDonna Steinhofer of Glenwood; three aunts, Shirley Steinhofer, Jean Fuchs, and Karen Zirbes, all of Melrose; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
