Rose "Rosie" Wilson Obituary

Rose “Rosie” Wilson, age 81, of Hoffman, MN, died Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 17th at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman with Pastor Mark Mathews officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date in First Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington, MN. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Rose “Rosie” Mary Blazejewski was born to Felix and Violet (Chrzanowski) Blazejewski, the third of four children, on August 8, 1939, in Wright Township, Marshall County, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm between Strandquist and Florian and attended the Assumption Catholic Church in Florian. Rose attended country school until the 4th grade, then Strandquist Public School through 8th grade.

Rose was united in marriage to Willard “Billy” Sylskar on August 2, 1958. The couple made their home in Karlstad, Minnesota, raising five children. In Karlstad, Rose provided childcare, cleaned houses and businesses, worked at the meat market in town, and later at Engen Drug and Variety. Rose and Bill later divorced.

Rose moved to Kensington, MN, where she was united in marriage to Carl Wilson on September 14, 1985. In Kensington, Rose again provided childcare and she operated the local café. Later, she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate and worked until her retirement at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in nearby Hoffman, where she loved taking care of the residents. Rose and Carl shared 14 ½ years of marriage before his death on March 13, 2000.

Rose loved dancing, watching polka and other old-time music shows, she loved her children, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, visiting and having coffee with friends, playing card games like Phase 10, and watching the Minnesota Vikings. Her favorite memories included milking cows when she was young, working on an older couple’s farm, and going to John Deere tractor shows. She was especially grateful to close friends who were there for her in good times and in bad, helping her enjoy life, and assist in times of need.

Rose was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Royal Neighbors of America.

She is survived by son Jeff Sylskar (Sue Brosius) of Drayton, ND, daughter Denise Marciniak of Newfolden, MN, son Robert (Nicole) Sylskar of Mayville, ND, and son Brian Sylskar of Hoffman, MN. Rose is also survived by grandchildren Nick (Michelle) Beito, Tina Beito Sviers, Jaclyn (Jeremy) Hicks, Jake (Leah) Beito, Kayla (Sean) Ambrose, Aaron Roehrich, Emily Roehrich, Landon Sylskar, and Blair Sylskar. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Avery Beito, Loki Sylskar, Brayden and Autumn Beito, and Phoebe Hicks.

Rose was preceded in death by her husbands, Willard Sylskar and Carl Wilson; a son, Darwin Sylskar; daughter-in-law, Carol Sylskar; son-in-law, Pete Marciniak; two brothers, Richard “Yogi” Blazejewski and Albert Blazejewski,; and her  sister, Angeline (Blazejewski) Kostrzewski.
