Richard "Dick" Stadick Obituary

Richard "Dick" W. Stadick, age 71, of rural Glenwood, MN, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 12, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 19th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Richard Willard Stadick was born on May 6, 1949 in New Ulm, MN. He was the fourth of six children born to parents Edwin J. and Leona M. (Groebner) Stadick. Dick grew up on a farm near New Ulm. He and his family were members at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and Dick attended parochial school there, graduating from Cathedral High School in 1967.

Following graduation, Dick worked for Laraway Roofing in New Ulm for three years before being hired by 3M in 1970. On October 6, 1973, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Kirschstein at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. They made their home in rural New Ulm until 1978, when Dick transferred to 3M’s Alexandria facility. In addition to his work at 3M, Dick also operated a small dairy and hobby farm on the property he and LaVonne purchased near Alexandria. It was there that they raised their three children, Christopher, Amy and Angie. After several years, Dick and LaVonne sold their farm and settled on a piece of property near Glenwood.

In 2007, after 37 years with 3M, Dick retired. He then spent five years working as a crop adjuster for NAU, which he enjoyed because it gave him the opportunity to travel around the rural area and talk “farming” with other farmers. At the age of 62, Dick retired for good, which provided him time to enjoy his many interests including hunting with his English Pointers, Deputy and Edith Ann, gardening, making sauerkraut, watching sports, and playing cards. He also spent countless hours in his shop creating beautiful wood furniture. He loved the companionship of his little Chihuahua, “Peeps”, and spending time with friends and family. Being a grandpa to his four grandchildren brought Dick great joy and he especially cherished the time he was able to spend with them.

Dick accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1998. He gave his life to the Lord and was baptized in Lake Minnewaska.

Dick was first diagnosed with cancer in 2014. He fought it aggressively and was blessed with more time than his doctors originally estimated. Through it all, he never complained or lost his sense of humor. His family will always remember and appreciate him for his integrity, honesty, and the reliable, steady foundation that he provided.

Dick went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 12, 2021. He was at home with his family and under the care of Glacial Ridge Hospice. His family would like to gratefully acknowledge Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they provided in Dick’s last days. They would also like to thank family friend Rick Simonson for all of the help and support he provided to Dick and LaVonne over the years.

Dick is survived by his wife of 47 years, LaVonne; their two daughters, Amy (Peter) Guhl of Savage and Angie (David) Heneke of Sauk Rapids; their son, Christopher (Carey) Stadick of Minnetrista; four grandchildren, Cecelia and Calvin Heneke and Henrietta and Nora Stadick; four siblings, Betty (Rich) Rathman of Albert Lea, and Barb Stadick, Kenny Stadick, and Eddie (Debbie) Stadick all of New Ulm; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leona and Edwin; a sister, Mary Ann Stadick; and two nephews.

Any monetary gifts received by the family will be used to establish a memorial in Dick’s honor.
