Rebecca "Becky" McIver Obituary

Rebecca “Becky” Jean (Jacobson) McIver, 68, Lowry, died April 12, 2023, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND after a courageous battle with pneumonia and multiple sclerosis-related complications. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowry with Pastor Bryan Taffe officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowry. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Becky was born November 10, 1954 in Glenwood to Gordon and Rose (Johnson) Jacobson. She attended grade school in Glenwood and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1973. While in high school she was active in band, speech, and was the class president.  Becky received her associates degree in accounting from Moorhead Technical College.   After college, she worked in accounting for the City of Moorhead and then stayed at home to raise her children.  She was later employed at Minnewaska Schools as the food service secretary.

On July 17, 1976, she married her high school sweetheart, Greg McIver. In their marriage of 30 years, they raised two children, Jennifer and Jonathon, and made their home in Lowry. Becky was very involved in the lives of her children. She fostered their musical development, held them to high standards, and supported them in all they did. Becky walked alongside Greg as he lost his 3-year battle with cancer in 2007. When her seven grandchildren came along, she doted on them, sewed them Christmas pajamas each year, and never turned down a babysitting opportunity. She will be forever remembered as a loving and selfless wife, mom, grandma, and friend.

Becky was a creative perfectionist whose talents seemed endless.  Any creation she had her hand in was always well done and unique.  She could paint, draw, sew, garden, quilt, woodwork, give great haircuts, and bake.  Becky was also musically gifted and made music an integral part of her life.  Whether she was singing harmony, playing guitar, leading the children at church, or striving to bring out the musical talents in others, music was in her soul.  “Happy Birthday” will never sound the same without her high harmony on the final six notes.

The ultimate organizer and planner, Becky worked tirelessly on any goal she set her mind to.  She had a generous heart of gold and was always willing to give her time and talents to help others or be present for special events.  She was accepting of all, easy to visit with, and a wonderful hostess.  Becky was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran in Lowry where she was active as a council member, deacon, and Sunday School leader over the years. She enjoyed golfing and time with her “Wednesday Sewing” group and Lowry Card Club ladies.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Aaron) Erickson of Lowry; son, Jonathon (Jana) McIver of Glenwood; grandchildren, Connor, Kendall, Camden, Miley, Maxwell, Lainey, and Olivia; in-laws, Paul and Ruth McIver of Lowry; step-mother Marcy Stavem-Jacobson of Glenwood;  brothers, Gregg (Mary) Jacobson of Glenwood, Dan (Mary) Jacobson of Hoffman, David (Camri) Jacobson of Maple Grove; sister-in-law Tammy McIver of Lowry; 13 nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Greg McIver; parents, Gordon and Rose Jacobson; and brothers-in-law, Timothy and Steven McIver.
