Phillip A. Erickson, age 65, of Glenwood, MN, died Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Glacial Ridge Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24th, at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood, with Pastor Brenda Boogren officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and will continue on Friday, one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in West Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hancock. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Phillip Anthony Erickson was born on November 5, 1955, to Clayton and Beverly (Lysen) Erickson in Starbuck, MN. He was the second of four children born to the couple. Phillip was raised with his brother and sister on a farm south of Starbuck. He and his family were members at West Zion Lutheran Church, not far from their home. Phillip attended school in Starbuck, where he graduated with the Class of 1974. He then went on to further his education at Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria.
Phillip was united in marriage to Julie Overstad on August 23, 1980, at West Zion Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter and three sons, which they raised in Long Beach, just outside of Glenwood. Phillip was employed for thirty years at WASP Manufacturing in Glenwood (now FAST Global Solutions). He and Julie eventually divorced.
Phillip enjoyed hunting, trips to the casino, motorcycling, and taking drives through the countryside. He was always quick to lend a hand if someone needed help and had a good sense of humor.
After years of deteriorating health, in March of 2018 Phillip became a resident at Glenwood Village Care Center. He passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Glacial Ridge Hospital at the age of 65. Phillip’s family would like to acknowledge the staff at Glenwood Village Care Center for the wonderful care they provided.
Phillip is survived by his four children, Orlin (Nancy) Erickson of Starbuck, Shana (Kevin) Zins of Benson, Alan Erickson of Clontarf, and Jonny Erickson of Benson; nine grandchildren, Adyan, Brooklyn, Bryson, Olivia, Travis, Dylin, Gracelyn, Briar, and Emma; one sister, Char (Jim) Welch of Moorhead; one brother, Danny (Sue) Erickson of Apple Valley; along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Beverly Erickson; one brother, Richard, in infancy; and his grandson, Boe Zins, in infancy.
