Michael James Silver, son of Randy and Sande (Jadeke) Silver, was born on May 30, 1993 in Alexandria, Minnesota. He grew up in Glenwood along with his older sister, Elise, and older brother, Tom. Michael was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood and attended Minnewaska Area Schools. While in elementary school he was active in Boy Scouts and in high school he participated in racing go-karts at area tracks, FFA, Robotics, and Golf. Following his graduation in 2011, Michael enrolled at Alexandria Technical College where he earned a degree in Mechanical Drafting, Design, and Engineering. While there he took part in Skills USA as the Minnesota Historian and competed against other students throughout the USA who were also enrolled in similar educational trade school programs.

In recent years, Michael worked as a Mechanical Designer and Detailer in the metal fabrication industry and bartended at local establishments. He was very social and personable which made it easy for him to make new friends. He also had a love for classic cars and Street Rods and enjoyed working on his own cars. He was an active member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association and an annual participant and volunteer at their Back to the 50’s weekend exhibition at the State Fair grounds.

Michael was known to be sensitive, caring, and a very generous individual. These qualities shined bright in his role as an uncle. He loved playing with and spoiling his two little nieces, Lilly and JoAnna, whom he adored. His wide range of friends from all over the state, many of whom he considered family, reflect his personality and contagious smile.

Michael was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a child. While the disease presented him with challenges and setbacks, he didn’t let it stop him from living life on his own terms. Michael died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, December 19, 2021, from complications associated with the disease.

Michael is survived by his father, Randy Silver of Glenwood; his sister, Elise (James) Rogholt of Fergus Falls; brother, Tom (Kaitlyn) Silver of Glenwood; two nieces, Lilly Rogholt and JoAnna Silver; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sande Silver in November of 2021; grandparents, Thomas and Leota Silver and Clarence and Elizabeth Jadeke; an aunt, Linda Howden; two uncles, Robert Jadeke and Michael Silver; and a cousin, Dustin Thompson.
