Lucille (Lucy) Matison, the daughter of Eva and George Kunkel was born on September 17, 1932 in Almena, Wisconsin. Her parents had five children, all daughters, and Lucy was the fourth. She grew up on a small dairy farm, attending both the church and country school which were located within walking distance. After graduating from Cumberland High School, she moved to Minneapolis where she worked for a few years and then attended Augsburg college, graduating with a degree in business. After graduation she worked at Lutheran Brotherhood as a secretary to the President. She met Jerry (who was also a student at Augsburg) through a college friend — they shared mutual interests in the natural world, animals and a love for rural living. They were married in a small wedding in Minneapolis in 1960. They had a son, Thor, in 1962 and a daughter, Krista in 1964. The next year Jerry took a position as a game warden in New Prague, Minnesota and a few years later in Mound, Minnesota, where Lucy worked as a secretary at the local Lutheran church. In 1970, Jerry took a position in Glenwood and the family moved to the house where Jerry still resides.
Lucy was a homemaker until their children left home for college, she then worked at American Business Forms. Lucy was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener, an animal lover and enjoyed the company of a close group of friends to share walks, bible study, food and laughter. She will be remembered for her love of animals (especially her cat!), her faith, and her love and commitment to family and friends. She will be missed by all of us.
Lucy is survived by her husband Jerry; children Thor and Krista; son-in-law Al; grandchildren Ingrid and Sage; her sister-in-law Sonja and her three remaining sisters Evelyn Midthun, Violet Swan and Joyce Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents Eva and George Kunkel and her sister Sadie Saville.
