Inga "Jo" Josephine Glittre, age 102 died peacefully December 4, 2020 at her home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at West Lake Johanna Lutheran Cemetery in rural Brooten. Pastor Stephen Bovendam will officiate. Casket bearers will be Dean Sorby, Dave Brown, Joseph Rooney, and Christopher Rooney. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Inga “Jo” Josephine Glittre was born on January 8, 1918 to John and Inga (Hoff) Glittre at the family farm in Lake Johanna Township, near Brooten, MN. She was baptized and received her early religious education in the Norwegian language at West Lake Johanna Lutheran Church in rural Brooten. Jo attended District #13 country school, Brooten Public School, and Miller Vocational School in Minneapolis.

During her younger years, Jo enjoyed horseback riding and watchmaking. As an adult she took pleasure in baking and traveling, especially with her older sister, Gladys. The two enjoyed many bus and train trips together over the years. Some of the places they visited were Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the State of Massachusetts, and Saskatchewan, Canada. When at home in Minneapolis, Jo liked to shop and go out to restaurants. She also made frequent trips back to the farm near Brooten to visit family and to spend time gardening.

Jo was employed at Honeywell Manufacturing in Minneapolis for 40 years, retiring in 1982. During World War II, she helped with the war effort by manufacturing ammunition.

After retiring from Honeywell, Jo worked as a nanny and housekeeper. She was also a member of the HoneyBelles, which was a public service association of Honeywell alumnae.

Jo passed away on December 4, 2020, at Augustana Care Center in Minneapolis.

Jo is survived by Mercedes Wiedmann, Diane (Larry) Smith, Donald Sorby, Daniel Sorby, Dean (Janice) Sorby, Debra (Dave) Brown, Brenda Cole, David Nikula, and their families.

Preceding Jo in death were her parents, John (1956) and Inga (1972) Glittre, brother, Palmer Glittre (1985) and sisters, Raechel Finden (1985), Mildred Nikula (2009), Olga Quale (2010) and Gladys Glittre (2012).
