Gloria (Kamps) Doebbert was born on February 1, 1926, in Douglas County, Minnesota, on the Kamps farm located along the south shore of Maple Lake in Hudson Township. The only child born to Wilford and Agnes (Reisrud) Kamps, she was baptized at West Lake Amelia Church between Glenwood and Villard. She attended grades 1-8 at Douglas County School District No 3 (Forada). Gloria then attended Alexandria Central High School from 1939-1943, graduating with the “Girls of 43” on June 4. In the fall of 1943, she began attending the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus. While at the University, Gloria participated in LSA (now Lutheran Campus Ministry), which became a core to her future life. In June, 1945, she was confirmed in her Lutheran Faith and one year later met Lowell Doebbert at one of the LSA campus meetings. The two dated while each earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University. On July 27, 1947, the summer following graduation, they were united in marriage. While still newlyweds they moved to Warren, Minnesota where they both taught high school. In 1950, they moved to their farm near Glenwood, Minnesota and joined Glenwood Lutheran Church. The farm was “home” and the place they raised their daughter and two sons. In 1988, they moved to a new home in Glenwood, where they enjoyed their retirement years.

Gloria was active in church and community throughout her life, participating in many roles at the Church, promoting and supporting the community library, acting as mission observer to Madagascar, selling real estate, and always supporting education. She enjoyed travel, music, visiting with her many friends, and supporting her family.

Gloria died peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Glenwood Retirement Village, where she had been a resident for several years. Her family wishes to acknowledge the staff for the wonderful care she received during her time there.

Gloria is survived by her three children: Gwendolyn Doebbert (Richard Epstein) of Sacramento California, Jan Doebbert (Nancy) of Glenwood Minnesota, and Belvin Doebbert (JoEllen) of Glenwood Minnesota, and five grandchildren: Amalia, Sarah, Joshua, Connor, and Gavin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford and Agnes, and her husband, Lowell who died in 2008.
