Doris Dwire Obituary

Doris Mae Dwire, died March 31, 2024, at Knute Nelson Nursing Home in Alexandria, Minnesota. A graveside service will be held on May 4th at 1:00 p.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery.

Doris, the second daughter of Richard and Mabel (Karpinski) Reihe was born on June 24, 1935, in Canby, Minnesota. She grew up in Canby, where she was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and attended school, graduating from Canby High School in 1953.

Doris's early career saw her brightening the days of many in various restaurants. She moved to St. Paul and was united in marriage with Eugene "Gene" Peters in 1957. While embracing city life, Doris worked in various capacities, always with the same dedication and friendly demeanor that were her hallmarks. The passing of Eugene in 1971 was a profound loss, prompting her return to Canby, where her roots ran deep.

In 1973, Doris's heart found companionship once again as she married Roger Dwire. Together, they poured their love and hard work into the Country Corners Café in Ivanhoe until 1989. The couple then relocated to Glenwood, where Doris continued to be an active and beloved member of the community. Sadly, Roger passed away in 1990, but Doris's resilient spirit shone as she found new ways to connect with those around her. In Glenwood, Doris worked at Ace Hardware and later at Casey's, where for 15 years she crafted pizzas with care until her retirement in 2012. Doris's dedication to her work was matched only by the love she had for her family and friends.

Doris's life was marked by her love for simple pleasures: crossword puzzles, baking and cooking that delighted the senses. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Doris especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Jeff) Olson of Glenwood; stepdaughter, Pam (Wade) Schmahl of Alexandria; granddaughter: Mikayla Olson, step-granddaughter, Alicia Gunderson, step-great granddaughter, Morgan Gunderson; her sister, Ruth Jones of Norwood; other relatives, friends and her furry companion Evie.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Eugene Peters and Roger Dwire, brother-in-law, Earl Jones and countless toy poodles.
