David Wedum Obituary

David John Wedum, age 75 of Glenwood, died July 2, 2020. A celebration of life happy hour will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 11th at Captains Bar and Grill. There will also be a visitation/reception on Sunday July 12th from 1:00-2:00 with a Memorial Service Celebrating David's life at 2:00 p.m. at the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home. 

David John Wedum, the son of Edgar P. and Pauline (Buckner) Wedum was born April 30, 1945 in Glenwood, Minnesota. He grew up along with his older brother, George, in Glenwood. David graduated from Glenwood High School in 1963 and went on to further his education graduating first from Macalester College in St. Paul in 1968 and the New York Institute of Finance in 1969.

From 1969 to 1979, David worked as an Account Executive in San Francisco, CA, as a restaurant and shopping center manager in Minneapolis and operations manager of Playboy Lake Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva Wisconsin. In 1979, David returned to Glenwood and ran the Glenwood Lumber Company, the family business, until selling it in 2005.

On June 29, 1985, David was united in marriage to Sherry Lynn Tilton. After their marriage they resided in Glenwood, where they raised their two children: Whitney and John. David and Sherry shared 33 years of marriage before Sherry passed away February 6, 2019.

Growing up David enjoyed many sports, especially golf which he continued throughout his adulthood and even teaching Sherry after they met. David was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan and loved going to the games with his family and friends. He loved cooking, playing cards and entertaining family and friends at his home on the lake.

David was a loving, devoted father, grandfather and friend. He lived life to the fullest and died unexpectedly on July 2, 2020.

David is survived by his son, John Wedum of Glenwood; daughter and son-in-law, Whitney and Matthew Gulden of Buffalo, and their children, Maxwell and Blakely; his father-in-law, Robert Tilton; as well as several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Pauline Wedum; wife, Sherry Wedum; brother, George Wedum; and mother-in-law, Phyllis Tilton.
