David J. Ronnie, age 86, of Glenwood, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, October 14, 2023. A gathering to celebrate his life, hosted by his family, will take place from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 26th, at the Glenhaven Manor Community Center, 507 5th St SE, Glenwood, MN 56334. Private family inurnment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
David Jerome Ronnie was born on November 17, 1936, in Cyrus, MN. He was the first of eight children born to Eilert Norval and Ida Victoria (Sandvig) Ronnie. He attended school in his hometown of Cyrus, where he was known for his friendly demeanor and thoughtful nature. As a young man, he operated a feed truck business, demonstrating an early knack for entrepreneurship and hard work. Later, he moved to the Twin Cities, where he worked as a commercial custodian until his retirement.
Upon his retirement, David returned to Glenwood to be near his brothers and sisters. His family and close friends were of utmost importance to him, and he cherished the time he spent with them. David was a gracious host, often opening his home to family and friends for gatherings and celebrations. He had a particular fondness for the holiday season, with Christmas being his favorite. His Christmas decorations and goodies brought warmth and cheer to family gatherings.
David was a huge fan of the Minnesota State Fair, a beloved tradition that he looked forward to with great anticipation each August. When he lived in the Twin Cities he attended at least once each year, enjoying the food, the exhibits, and people watching. The Fair was the highlight of David’s summers and he enjoyed telling friends and family about the things he did and saw there.
David passed away unexpectedly at home on October 14, 2023, in Glenwood, MN at the age of 86. His legacy of kindness and thoughtfulness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
David is survived by his three sisters, Anna Brekkestran, Elaine Brezina, and Rose (Larry) Osterman, and his three brothers, Hans "Jerry" (Gloria) Ronnei, Richard Ronnie, and LeRoy Ronnie; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norval and Ida; one brother, Otto Ronnie; a nephew, Kevin Brekkestran; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Brezina and Allen Brekkestran.
David's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the traditions continued, and the love he left behind. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, friendship, and family, and he will be deeply missed.
