David O. Anderson, age 83, of Brainerd, formerly of Glenwood, MN, died Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Bethany Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Brainerd. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 29th at Glenwood Lutheran Church with Rev Krista Lee officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M and run until the time of service. Interment will be in Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
David Ole Anderson, son of Ole A. Anderson and Florence (Peterson) Anderson, was born on May 16, 1938, in Elmore MN. David was the second of five children. He grew up in Elmore, and was baptized and confirmed at Shiloh Lutheran Church also in Elmore. He attended and graduated from Elmore Public Schools.
David attended St Olaf College in Northfield MN, Pomona Junior College in Pomona CA, California State Polytechnic University also in Pomona, and the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis MN. He was primarily self-employed in the building trades, working as a carpenter and architectural designer under his own name as a general contractor, or as Shoreview Construction. He also did long-distance trucking.
David was united in marriage to Judith “Judy” M. Monson on August 6, 1960 in Pomona, CA. They lived in California until 1964 when they moved to Minnesota, residing first in St. Paul, and then Deephaven. In 1972, they purchased a farm near Glenwood where they resided for 22 years before moving to Detroit Lakes for ten years and then Garrison MN. After Judy’s death in 2008, Dave met MaryLou Whirley and spent the rest of his life in the Brainerd area.
David was a member of the Lions Club, various Chambers’ of Commerce in the cities where he operated his businesses, and the Glenwood Lutheran Church Board. His hobbies included photography, model trains, a self-built hot rod, hunting, fishing, farming and woodworking, having been known for his beautifully handcrafted gifts to family members.
David is survived by his significant other MaryLou Whirley of Brainerd, three daughters, Julie (Leo) Parvis of Chaska, Sallie Olson of Alexandria, and Sarah Anderson of Garrison, two grandchildren, Ashley Olson and Jaci Olson; three great-grandchildren, Sierra, Cheyenne, and Alexa; two sisters, Karen (Merlin) Ricklefs, and Dr. Jan (Roger Jorgenson) Meyer; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy in 2008; his parents; a younger sister, Susan, in childhood; and a younger brother, Kim Anderson; two nephews, all his aunts and uncles; and many cousins.
Dave will be remembered for his steadfast love of family and the pride he had for them, for his unwavering faith, his sense of humor, his love of dancing, and his beautiful carpentry.
