Daniel McIver Obituary

Daniel N. McIver, age 87 of Glenwood, formerly Lowry, died Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. A funeral service for Dan will be held on Friday, May 7th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lowry. Visitation will be Thursday, May 6th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in rural Lowry. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Daniel Newton McIver was born July 17, 1933 in Starbuck, MN to Dr. Bertrand and Gertrude (Johnson) McIver of Lowry, MN. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1951 and attended the University of Minnesota in agricultural studies. Following college, he operated a dairy farm near Farwell.  He married Geraldine May Armerding in Wheaton, Illinois on November 3, 1956, raising five children, teaching them the values of family, hard work, and faith in God.

In later years Dan worked as a sales representative for several dairy equipment companies, was self-employed for several years and in business, “Lowry Dairy Sales”, with his brother Paul. Dan’s sales philosophy was, “People don’t like you because you are sitting behind your desk, they like you because you are out there leaning up against their machinery talking to them.”

Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, church activities, and had a special place in his heart for his family and children everywhere. A favorite memory is Dr. Bert bringing home the Sunday paper after making rounds at the hospital and together reading about the exploits of the Minnesota Gophers. He watched the first Vikings football game and has been an unwavering fan ever since.

Dan was devoted to his Lord and Savior, Jesus and had a passion for daily reading his Bible and sharing the Gospel message.

Dan loved his bride of 64 years, and theirs was a love story for the ages. She will dearly miss the daily reminder of how beautiful and loved she was.

Dan is survived by his wife, Geraldine, of Glenwood, MN; children Beth, of Alexandria, MN, Janice (Tom Krzeminski), of Westchester, IL, David (Sherrie), of Blaine, MN, Jeanne (Paul) Sherwood, of Sugar Grove, IL, Mary (Fred) Urch, of Owatonna, MN; five grandchildren, Jordan (Amanda) McIver, Kyle (Allie) McIver, Tyler McIver, Elizabeth and Daniel Sherwood, Ted and Victoria Urch; one brother, Paul (Ruth) McIver, of Lowry, MN, two sisters, Jessie Pridgen, of Burnsville, MN, and Beth (Paul) Hadley, of Glen Ellyn, IL., one sister-in-law, Clara McIver, of West Melbourne, FL; six great-grandchildren,  Andrew, Peter and Benjamin McIver; Ella, Asher, and Emily McIver and many dear nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bert.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Praise Live, 402 Pike St. E., Osakis, MN 56360

He is Daniel
Beloved son and brother
Fisherman of misted morning lakes
Farmer of fields green and gold
Blue eyes watching the grasses wave.
Proud father of five,
Providing, protecting, and working side by side.
“Isn’t she beautiful?” he says of the Wheaton grad he married 64 years ago.
He watches out his window
The fields, the gravel road that turns home.
This well-loved son knows the Father who created it all and waits for him
Where gravel turns to gold.
