Charlene R. Van Vickle

Charlene R. Van Vickle, age 60 of Glenwood, died Monday, July 6, 2020 at home. A Celebration of her life will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 15th in the main picnic shelter at Barsness Park in Glenwood. Those attending are encouraged to bring their own lawn chair. Prior to the Celebration of Life a private family inurnment will take place in Chippewa Falls Lutheran Cemetery in Terrace, beginning at 2:00 P.M. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Charlene Rae Van Vickle was born July 27, 1959 to Leonard and Lorraine (Martin) Van Vickle in Glenwood, MN. She was the sixth of their seven children. She grew up in Glenwood and was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Charlene attended Glenwood public school, graduating in 1978. She later attended college in Willmar, MN.

In 1980, Charlene became employed at Glenwood Retirement Village as a CNA. She worked there until 2008. From 2010 - 2012 she worked as a Personal Care Attendant at Parkview Court in Glenwood.

Charlene enjoyed doing word finds and Sudoku puzzles, coloring in adult coloring books, and playing casino games on her tablet. She also liked her lottery scratch offs and watching television. She loved decorating and hosting family get-togethers for holidays and she was known to sneak treats to little ones when they would come around.

Charlene had numerous bouts with cancer, which she fought with courage and determination. She passed away at home in Glenwood on the afternoon of Monday, July 6, 2020. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her three sisters, Barbara Sanvig, Vicky Van Vickle and Debra Van Vickle, all of Glenwood; one brother, David (Kathy) Van Vickle of Glenwood; a brother-in-law, Michael Martin of Alexandria; three uncles, Clifford Van Vickle of Starbuck; Steven B. Martin and Gary (Donna) Martin, all of Glenwood; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews; along with numerous cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Lorraine Van Vickle, grandparents, Earl and Jeanette Van Vickle and Seldon and Florence Martin; two sisters, Carolyn Martin and Cheryl Van Vickle; along with many aunts and uncles.
