Beverly Mackie Obituary

Beverly Mackie, age 83, of Glenwood, MN died Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Private services will be held. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

There is no doubt that Beverly Anne (Gallo) Mackie lived a full life in her 83 years. Born August 13, 1937, in Mount Vernon, New York, her young adult life was spent taking in all the arts and culture that New York City had to offer. She married the love of her life, William “Bill” Mackie, on November 5, 1960. Together they lived an adventurous life, raising their children and traveling as often as possible. Their family moved to Wayzata, Minnesota in 1970. Not only was Bev an involved and devout mother and wife, she also volunteered at the American Cancer Society Corporate Office and served on various charity boards, traveling and educating volunteers. When Bill was diagnosed with cancer in 1999, Bev jumped into the role of primary caregiver. Following his passing in 2005, she moved to Glenwood to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.

Anyone who knew Bev knew her favorite pastime was chatting. She would spend hours throughout the day telling stories and reminiscing. Her favorite topic of conversation was her grandchildren. She saw much of herself in their adventurous spirits. As they grew and moved away from Minnesota they spoke often, she would always have an anecdote about her life that tied perfectly into their current situations.

She is now reunited with her parents, Charles Gallo and Antoinette “Anne” (Del Vecchio) Gallo, husband, William “Bill”, infant daughter, Cheryl Anne, brother, Charles “Chuck” Gallo and a menagerie of adored family members, friends and pets.

Her spirit is carried on by her children, Denise and David Mackie, both of Glenwood, MN; grandchildren, Daniel and Cheryl Holtkamp; niece, Bonnie Minkler and her husband, Peter; honorary daughters, Sharon Nelson and Nancy Freitag; and countless other friends who became family.
