Todd J. Arends

Todd J. Arends, age 44, of Brandon, SD, and formerly of Brooten, MN, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, while at work in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, December 16th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten, with Pastor Stephen Bovendam officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 5:30 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. and will resume at the church on Monday, beginning at Noon and running until the time of service. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Brooten.

Todd Jeffrey Arends, son of Joe and Brenda (Vander Beek) Arends, was born in Glenwood, MN on July 5, 1975. He was welcomed home by big sister, Janis. Todd grew up in Brooten and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended elementary school in Brooten and high school at Brooten-Belgrade-Elrosa (BBE), graduating with the Class of 1993. Todd had a wonderful singing voice and while in high school he had a role in BBE’s production of the musical “Oklahoma!”

Following graduation, Todd found work around the Brooten area, working at Jennie-O in Willmar, driving milk truck for his dad, and working for TW Painting and Prefinishing in Brooten. During this time he lived at various places around the area, including Willmar, Spicer, and Brooten. In 2009 TW Painting and Prefinishing sold their equipment to Building Products, Inc. (BPI) of Sioux Falls. Because of his familiarity with the machines, Todd was offered a position with that company and he relocated, choosing to live in Brandon, SD, a short drive from Sioux Falls. He really enjoyed his work and the friends he made there.

Todd was outgoing, quick-witted, funny, and charismatic; he had an unmistakable boisterous voice. He was artistic and enjoyed designing and creating art. He was an avid billiard player, golfer, Minnesota Wild fan, and participated in a dart league. He also enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, and motorcycles. Most importantly, he was a loving son and brother.

Todd passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, December 10, 2019, at work in Sioux Falls, at the age of 44 years. His passing has left a huge void in the hearts and lives of those who loved him. May his memory be blessed.

Todd is survived by his parents, Joe and Brenda of Brooten; his sister, Janis, and her husband, Mike Molde of St. Paul, along with Mike’s sons, Tyler and Matthew; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, countless friends, and his cat, Gooch.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; two aunts, Sharon Stolze and Florence Arends; and an uncle, Kenneth Klosterboer.
