Phyllis A. (Harvig) Hanson

Phyllis A. Hanson, age 83 of Glenwood, died Monday, October 22, 2018 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 25th at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Phyllis Ann Harvig, daughter of Carl and Omanda (Pladson) Harvig, was born on July 16, 1935, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. At the time of her birth, the family was living near Ogema, but not long after they moved to a farm in Barsness Township, near Glenwood, where Phyllis and her two sisters were raised. Phyllis first attended country school and then Glenwood High School, where she graduated with the Class of 1953.

On August 27, 1954, Phyllis was united in marriage to her childhood friend, Ronald Hanson, at the courthouse in Alexandria. The two made their home on a farm in Rolling Forks Township, near Glenwood, where they were blessed to raise their three children, Kevin, Keith, and Luann. Phyllis first worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone and then as a Therapy Rehab Aide at Glenwood Retirement Village for the next 43 years, until her retirement in 2011. Phyllis and Ronald are longtime members of Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace, where Phyllis participated in Ladies Aide Circle.

Phyllis enjoyed feeding and watching birds, gardening, taking care of her cats, cooking and baking for family and friends. She kept a very neat house and especially liked her windows to be clean. She was a gracious and welcoming hostess who loved the holidays and family gatherings as they provided special time to love on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also blessed with many friends, with whom she loved to visit and laugh.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ronald; their three children, Kevin (Carol) Hanson of Alexandria, Keith (Arriann) Hanson of Glenwood, and Luann (Ted) Guenther of Glenwood; 8 grandchildren, Justin (Meagan) Paumen, Jenna Paumen, Carly (Jack Filipiak) Hanson, Laine (Jordan) Herman, MaKenna Hanson, Kade Hanson, Karra Hanson, and Konner Hanson, two great-grandchildren, Braelyn and Chase Paumen; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Omanda Harvig, and two sisters, Eleanor Santwire and Clarice Halling.
