Janet Zimmerman, age 84 of Glenwood, died Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Glenwood. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Janet Mary Zimmerman, the daughter of Ben and Alyce (Theroux) Berg was born August 3, 1934 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Glenwood High School. After graduation Jan moved to Minneapolis to work at the University of Minnesota. She later returned to Glenwood and married Harley Zimmerman. Together they had eight children.
Jan was known and loved by many. She worked at the Pope County Court House and the Glenwood Retirement Village where she later retired. She loved to read and watch detective stories and had a great love for animals. By far, her greatest passion was her family and she devoted her life to them. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood.
Jan is survived by her children: Jerry (Ruth) Zimmerman of Menomonie, WI, Deborah (Rich) Pederson of Minneapolis, Richard Zimmerman of Minneapolis, Scott (Misti) Zimmerman of Green River, Wyoming, Steven (Dawn) Zimmerman of Minneapolis, Robyn Zimmerman of Crested Butte, Colorado, and Kelly (Heather) Zimmerman of Rochester, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren: Nicole, Blaize, Kimberly, Charity, Cassidy, Ellen, Sawyer, Elliot, Christina, Matthew, Harlee, Alyssa, Tyler, Trent, Troy, and Tricia; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra (Doug) Podratz; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Alyce Berg; daughter, Nancy Zimmerman; Nancy’s life partner, Tim Claussen; grandson, Trevor Pederson; former husband, Harley Zimmerman; brother, Larry “Butch” Berg; and brother-in-law, Dale Zimmerman.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Schlueter, Jan’s doctor of 37 years; the staff of Glacial Ridge Hospital and the staff of Parkview court, especially Jan’s longtime friend, Ruth Vait, who lovingly cared for Jan for many years.
