Carole Chevalier Obituary

Carole Margaret Molde, daughter of Lourney and Edith Irene (Olson) Molde, was born on July 2, 1933, in Plaza, North Dakota. She grew up on a farm in Chippewa County, Minnesota, along with her brother, Luverne. Carole attended school in nearby Benson, and graduated with the Class of 1951. She was employed at Demarce Theater and later at Chevalier Insurance, both in Benson.

On May 2, 1953, Carole married Robert Joseph Chevalier at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Benson. The two met in Benson when Bob returned home to take over his father’s insurance agency at the time of his father’s death. For the next 32 years Carole and Bob made their home in Benson and spent summers on Lake Minnewaska near Glenwood. Carole and Bob were blessed with five children, Carrie, Connie, Catherine, Michel, and Cecilia. Carole was a loving and supportive wife to Bob, who was both a businessman and entrepreneur. Among Bob’s endeavors was the development of the Village of Baycrest in Glenwood, which he began with a business partner in the late 1970’s and continued throughout his lifetime. In 1985, Carole and Bob moved to Baycrest. Bob died in 2009, at the age of 80 years and Carole continued to reside at Baycrest until recently, when she moved to Parkview Court in Glenwood.

When her girls were young, Carole volunteered as a Girl Scout Troop leader and was a teacher’s aide at St. Francis Catholic School, where her children were students. Her lifelong hobbies included bridge club, golf, league bowling, and alpine downhill skiing. She also loved to fish and pursued record size salmon and tropical fish. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood and, in her later years, the Red Hat Society. Carole was a very social and outgoing person, with a warm smile. She was a gracious hostess, known especially for her cookie baking skills. She could always be counted on to have a well-stocked cookie jar for visitors.

Carole is best described as a beloved, elegant, and classy lady. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her. On Monday, December 30, 2019, Carole died at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, having lived to the age of 86 years.

Carole is survived by four of her five children and grandchildren; Carrie (Patrick) Chevalier Mosher of Minnetonka (Elena Sotirin and Tara [Alan] Carlin); Connie Chevalier of Anchorage, Alaska (Meagan [Michael] Flanagan, Max [Stephanie] Holmquist and Chad Holmquist); Catherine Chevalier-Lien of Starbuck (Amanda [Matt] Meyer and Patrick Gilmore); Michel (Katherine) Chevalier of Glenwood (Abby Mitchell and Sydnie and Ava Chevalier); the children of Cecilia Chevalier-Larson: Caitlin [Jack] White, Christopher Steffl, Alex, Caitlin and Benjamin Larson; as well as 12 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 2009; her daughter, Cecilia Chevalier-Larson in 2015; and her brother, Luverne Molde.
