Raymond "Ray" A. Gulsvig

April 24, 1934 ~ July 6, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Ray Gulsvig, 83, of Glenwood, MN, died July 6, 2017, at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 12, at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Hoplin-Hitchcock funeral home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Raymond Alvin Gulsvig was born on April 24, 1934, to Alvin and Gladys (Davidson) Gulsvig, in Rolling Forks Township, Pope County, MN. He was united in marriage to Delores Mattson on October 1, 1955. Delores preceded him in death on March 26, 1980. He married Bonnie Disrud on November 21, 1987. Bonnie preceded him in death on August 2, 2010.

Ray and Delores lived in the Twin Cities after they were married. They moved to Glenwood where Ray worked for Jim Sharp as a floor covering installer. After Jim died, Ray bought the store and opened Ray's Floor Covering. He later sold the store to Glenwood Hydronics, where he worked for a few years. After that, he worked independently until retirement.

He was active in the Glenwood Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce. In 1965 he became a member of the Glenwood Fire Department, and retired in 1985. He was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church for many years, and served as an usher and a custodian.

Ray was very involved in the Glenwood Waterama parades. He was the driving force behind keeping a favorite unit in the Sunday parade, the Soo Line replica steam locomotive Old Engine Number 185. Either Ray or his sons drove the train in the parade from 1986 to 2011.

Ray is survived by sons, Keith (Sue) Gulsvig of St. Cloud, MN, Jeff (Charlton) Gulsvig of Glenwood, MN, and Brent (Lisa) Gulsvig of Starbuck, MN; grandchildren, Cassie and Daniel Gulsvig; step-grandchildren, Bryce, Jordon & Trisha Stallman; great-grandchild, Fenix; step-great-grandchild, Benjamin; step-sons, Richard (Lynette) Disrud of Eden Prairie, MN, Dale (Nancy) Disrud of St. Paul, MN, Keith (Sue) Disrud of Belgrade, MN, Larry (Pat) Disrud of Starbuck, MN, Ron (Char) Disrud of Starbuck, MN, and Gregg Disrud of Lowry, MN; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Glenn (Delores) Gulsvig of Bloomington, MN, Marlene Halls of Glenwood, MN, Richard (Judy) Gulsvig of Chandler, AZ, Marsha Gulsvig of New Hope, MN, and Paul Gulsvig of Little Falls, MN.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his first and second wives, his brother Darrell and brother-in-law, Allan Halls.
